Billy Eugene Ellis

A celebration of life service will be held for the late Billy Eugene Ellis at noon on Sunday, April 13 at McCay Hall in Cathey’s Valley.

Ellis, 81, passed away on Feb. 9, 2014 at Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility in Stockton, Mo. He was born on Sept. 27, 1932 to Earl and Edith Ellis in Sedan, Kan.

Billy married Jean Joy Sole on Sept. 8, 1951 in Wayside, Ga. The couple went on to have six children together.

He served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps during the Korean War as an aviation electronics technician. Following his service, he worked for Boeing, and as a hydro-electronic technician.

Billy and his family moved to the Merced-Mariposa area in 1960. He moved back to Kansas in 1979.

Ellis loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, playing golf, being around horses and cattle, and coaching Little League in Merced and Snelling. He will be missed by family and friends, and will never be forgotten for his willingness to help a friend when needed.

Survivors include his wife, Jean, of Stockton, Mo., a daughter, Margaret Melissa Boland of West Sacramento, and five sons, Donald Eugene Ellis and wife Marilyn of Stockton, Mo., Daniel Ellis and wife Kim of Mariposa, Jeff Ellis of Drexel, Mo., Lawrence Lee Ellis and wife Patty of Spring Hill, Kan., and Brian Ellis of Vicksburg, Miss. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, including Erica and Karen Boland, Zachary, Josh and Dillon Ellis and wife Carrie Blosser, Tina Brownsberger and husband Gereon, Stacey Picard, Levi, Jacob and Wyatt Ellis, Jennifer Chow and husband Richard, Casey Ellis, Whitney Eslinger and husband Andrew, Nathan Ellis and wife Leah, Bethany Edwards and husband Gavin, Ethan, Rebecca and Josiah Ellis, Brady Ellis and wife Tyann, and Chandler Ellis. Billy is also survived by 15 greatgrandchildren, with three on the way, and by four great-great grandchildren, with one more on the way.
