Storm drops surprising snow

Wednesday, April 2, 2014 - 9 a.m. - A cold spring storm dropped close to six inches of snow on Jerseydale Road, with lesser amounts over lower elevations as of Wednesday morning.

Local fire and highway agencies reported no significant accidents or incidents connected to the storm. Off Darrah Road, however, at least one Jeep was damaged by falling oak limbs (see attached photo).

"It has been thankfully quiet," Mariposa County Fire Department Chief Len DeJoria said.

California Highway Patrol spokesperson Carrie Smith reported no major incidents on county highways.

Mariposa's automated weather station tallied just .61 inches of rain for the period from Tuesday to Wednesday morning.
