Carolyn Jeanne Price

Carolyn Jeanne Price was born on April 9, 1924 and passed away on March 5, 2014 in Merced.

The youngest daughter of Thomas Benjamin and Helen Marie Price, Carolyn was born in Stockton and grew up on the family ranch in Cathey’s Valley. Mariposa County pioneer Andrew Cathey was her great, great grandfather.

Carolyn attended Cathey’s Valley Elementary School and graduated from Mariposa County High School in 1941. During World War II she worked at Merced Army Air Field (Castle Air Force Base) and at Lud’s Auto Parts. She retired in 1983 after a career in banking.

Carolyn was a member of the Cathey’s Valley Methodist Church, Mariposa Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Mariposa Chapter of Eastern Star, Yosemite Gateway Chapter Eastern Star and the Cathey’s Valley Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Noreen Hilk and Althea Westfall, great nephew Michael T. Westfall and dear friend Patricia Burke Rucker.

Carolyn is survived by her nephews and nieces, Dale (Janet) Westfall, Jim (Ginger) Westfall, Tom (Paulette) Hilk, Linda Toby Westfall and Judie (Leon) Huffman. Her family was important to her, and especially her surviving first cousins Virginia Strangman, Scott (Norma) Brundage, Kathleen (Don) Post and Gwen (Jim) Rose. She is also survived by several great nephews, nieces and her dear friend Elsie Arriaga Kohlmoos.

Carolyn loved her Lord and Savior, her family and her friends very much.

Memorial services will be held at the Cathey’s Valley Cemetery pavilion on Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cathey’s Valley Historical Society.
