Dynamite discovery rocks Mt. Bullion

Thursday, March 13, 2014, 3 p.m. - A wood crate containing what appeared to be old sticks of dynamite got a reporting party's attention near the Mariposa-Yosemite Airport today. Around noon, a bomb-squad team detonated the material.

Emergency responders including Mariposa County Sheriff's Office deputies and the Merced City Police Department Bomb Squad set up a perimeter to create a safety zone, Sheriff Doug Binnewies said. The situation was unfolded near the intersection of Old Toll Road and Pendola Garden Road.

The Mariposa County Sheriff's Office has a cooperative agreement with the Merced bomb squad.
