MCUSD forming surplus property committee

Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 - 3:15 p.m. - The Mariposa County Unified School District is forming a  surplus sroperty committee (also known as the 7-11 committee), per approved Board Resolution 14-07.

The committee’s task is to review data to determine the amount of MCUSD’s surplus space or real property available, establish a priority list for its use, provide community input on acceptable uses, and forward its recommendations to the governing board. On recommendation from the advisory committee, a school district’s governing board may pass a Resolution of Intention to dispose of real property.

Education Code section 17389 states that an advisory committee must be represented by each of the following:
a.   The ethnic, age group, and socioeconomic composition of the school district.
b.   The business community, such as store owners, managers, or supervisors.
c.   Landowners or renters, with preference to be given to representatives of     neighborhood associations.
d.   Teachers.
e.   Administrators.
f.    Parents of students.
g.   Persons with expertise in environmental impact, legal contracts, building codes, and land use planning, including, but not limited to, knowledge of the zoning and other land use restrictions of the cities or cities and counties in which the surplus space and real property is located.

The committee’s first meeting will be in March 2014 (date to be determined). Meetings will tentatively be held at 3:30 pm in the MCUSD Board Room. If you are interested in participating on this committee please contact Charlotte Kelsey, MOTFW Coordinator at 742-0275 x311 or ckelsey@mariposa.k12.ca.us, by Wednesday, March 5th, 2014. Please include which category or categories above (a-g) apply to you. Ed Code allows for a minimum of 7 people and a maximum of 11 people to be on the committee, so it is possible that some of those interested may not be selected to participate. Once the committee is formed, an announcement will be made as to the identity of its members.
