Lowell John Dexter

Lowell John Dexter died in Auberry on Jan. 19, 2014. He was 99.

Dexter was born on Jan. 23, 1914 in Fort Crossing, Calif. He lived in the mountain area for 54 years. He was a self-employed truck driver. His hobbies included traveling, elk hunting and the Clampers.

Dexter’s parents, John and Kate Dexter, were the former owners of the MARIPOSA GAZETTE.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene D., in 1978, and by his second wife, Jacquelyn, in 2012.

Dexter is survived by his son, John Dexter; his stepson, David Schumaker; and by his grandchildren, Kelly Avila, Debra Dexter, James Dexter, Michael Dexter, Jack Schumaker, and Sarah Schumaker. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Feb. 1 from noon to 1 p.m. at Palm Memorial Sierra Chapel, 49269 Road 26 in Oakhurst. A memorial service will Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 42484 Highway 41 in Oakhurst.
