TV newsman Gray may challenge McClintock

Sacramento television personality Walt Gray is considering a run for Rep. Tom McClintock's District 4 U.S. Congressional seat, Gray confirmed to media outlets today.

"Ive been contacted by some (citizens) about my interest in running for Congress," Gray said in a statement.

While he's never held public office, "I think that's a positive," Gray's statement continued. "People want fresh ideas."

Gray has been a longtime presence on two Sacramento television stations, and has also worked as a radio talk-show host. He is not affiliated with any political party, a media report said.

Gray is also known for an annual motorcycle ride that raises funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Upcoming election dates include a June 3 primary and a November 4 election that will decide who will be California's next governor.

Rep. McClintock defeated challenger Jack Uppal by a margin of 61 to 39 percent to win the fourth congressional district in Nov. 2012.
