Tioga, Glacier Point roads close in Park

Yosemite National Park officials have announced that Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road are now closed for the season.

While lower-elevation snow totals from last weekend's storm were modest, accumulations along the higher-elevation routes were "heavy," the Park said in a statement.

"Due to snowy and icy conditions, the Tioga and Glacier Point Roads in Yosemite National Park are closed for the season," the statement continued. "These roads close each fall and remain closed throughout the winter months until weather conditions permit reopening in the spring next year."

Last weekend's snowfall total at Badger Pass ski area was just 14 inches. At least two feet were needed to open the area at its scheduled opening date on Friday, Dec. 13.

Tioga Road stayed open through January of last year--drawing ice skaters, hockey players and others.

No measurable precipitation was listed on the forecast horizon as of today, a National Weather Service forecast said.
