James Michael Massie

James Michael Massie, after a strong fight, passed away peacefully on the morning of Dec. 1, 2013 at his Henderson, Nev. home.

His loyal companion Butch and loving wife Karen were by his side. Jim was born to Thomas and JoAnn Massie in Hollywood on June 27, 1951. At the age of two and a half, Jim contracted polio, but he never let that hold him back.

He helped run his family's hobby shop in Temple City, Calif. but was determined to move to the mountains with his sweetheart to raise his children. In 1976 he moved his family to Mariposa and lived in the Mariposa/El Portal/Yosemite area for 30 years until moving to Henderson, Nev. in 2005. While in Mariposa he worked as a gold miner, school bus driver and retired three years ago after 30 years with the National Park Service. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed time with his children— whether it was building model rockets or coaching soccer and baseball.

Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen Massie, and his favorite companion Butch. He is also survived by his daughter Jenny Pace of Old Saybrook, Conn., her husband Mike and granddaughter Mikayla, his son Michael Massie of Roseville, Calif., wife Julie, granddaughter Avery and grandson Blake. Jim is also survived by his brother Mark Massie of the Santa Barbara area and his sister Kim Hurd of Hamden, Conn.

Services will be held in the Mariposa area on a future date yet to be determined. Thank you to Compassion Care Hospice of Henderson and the wonderful staff who helped to make his final days peaceful. Heaven has gained a new angel. We will miss you, Dad. Keep on truckin' and lovin' every minute of it!
