Wilfred “Bill” Bulik

Wilfred (Bill) Bulik passed away peacefully on Oct. 29, 2013 at his daughter’s home in San Jose.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Betty Jeanne Graham.

Bill was born on Oct. 20, 1920, and grew up on a farm in Barnesville, Minn. At the age of 18, he left the farm and moved to California and took up residency in Redwood City and learned the trade of carpenter. He later had his own backhoe business. He and his wife moved to Mariposa in 1982 where they built their retirement home.

At the age of 21, Bill joined the Army where he became a member of the 82nd Airborne Company C 504th Parachute Infantry. He was honorably discharged from military service on Oct. 10, 1945 after his third injury. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with four bronze stars, a Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters, a Good Conduct ribbon, one service stripe and three overseas bars.

Bill raised five children: Linda Nemier of San Jose, Richard Buli of San Jose, Nancy Olafson of Louisville, Kentucky, Beverly Vallance of Alpine Meadows and Matthew Bulik of Merced.

A funeral mass and burial with military honors was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mariposa on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Ladies Guild or the Msgr. Francis E. Walsh Scholarship Fund.
