Smoke continues to impact county

11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10. A low-pressure system to the south was improving air quality in Mariposa on Tuesday, but smoke remained a factor in Yosemite Valley.

Winds are forecast to blow out of the south and southwest--a trend that will likely improve air quality across the area, however.

A National Weather Service wind animation map on Tuesday morning showed wind from the Rim Fire zone flowing to the southwest. Tuesday's smoke conditions had improved due to less of an inversion over the area, however.

High pressure over the region is anticipated to keep temperatures higher than normal this week, with modest cooling anticipated by Friday.
