Michael Van Hubert

Michael Van Hubert passed away early on July 18 of pancreatic cancer in the home he built.

He was born in Ohio in 1943. Michael rode Route 66 west with his parents, Walter and Louise Hubert, where they settled in Altadena.

Michael accompanied his dad in the building of all things including the family’s home. After graduating from John Muir High School, he worked any job that would get him outside, from his time with the U.S. Forest Service to the mountain ranches and camps of Southern California.

He worked as a city fireman for Newport Beach and later settled in Mariposa in 1982, where he worked as a general contractor and craftsman for the next 35 years.

He actively supported the MCHS Future Farmers of America program and Mariposa County Resource Conservation District.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Lauren; sister, Susan Hubert; brother Walter Hubert and brother-in-law, Mark Saltzman; nieces, Jessica Powell and Megan Barrett; and nephew, Aaron Powell.

At this time there are no specific memorial plans. The family thanks the community for their continued love and support.
