Coby Bondshu Ashworth

Coby Ann Bondshu Ashworth was born on Aug. 18, 1958 in Mariposa. She lived a fabulous life until the age of 54 when she went home to heaven on June 25, 2013.

Coby was born to Bob and Rachel Bondshu and is one of four children: Bill Bondshu, Frank Bondshu and Krista Bondshu Stuerman, who now survive her as siblings. Coby grew up and graduated high school in Mariposa and went on to college in Sonora, Monterey and Colorado with her many local girlfriends that keep stories close at heart of their many adventures.

After moving home to California, she married Gerald “Pete” Bean of Mariposa in the summer of 1980 in Yosemite Valley. Their first son, Gerald Jeremiah Bean was born in Berkeley in 1981, and two years later, moving back to Mariposa, they had their second son Daniel Robert Bean.

Coby worked numerous jobs in Mariposa including insurance work in the family business and county jobs in the courthouse and social services. Pete and Coby eventually separated, and she married Mark Ashworth of Mariposa in June of 1991 in Wawona. Coby, Jeremiah and Daniel then welcomed Mark and his two children, Crystal and Amanda into their family.

The four children grew to have families of their own, with Coby at the heart of them all. Brylee and Brody Bean to Jeremiah and wife Lacey, Anneliese and Rachel Bean to Daniel and wife Michelle, and Christopher and Jacob Ashworth to Crystal and husband Chris. More than anything, Coby enjoyed her later years watching her grandchildren grow and develop. Her love for family was seen by all that surrounded her. Coby was a true giver of happiness and joy. We will miss her, but we will let her go.

Coby’s celebration of life was held at the United Methodist Church in Mariposa on June 30 and a reception followed at the VFW hall. The overwhelming response and attendance overjoyed Coby’s family. Over 200 people attended and countless friends assisted the family in the wake of her passing. The Ashworth, Bondshu and Bean families would like to thank everyone who attended and send blessings and thanks to all those who helped the family during this time. Your love and support will forever be in their hearts.
