Rosemary Ruiz

Rosemary Ruiz, a long-time resident of Mariposa County, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, at the age of 83.

She was born in San Franscquito Canyon in Southern California on Dec. 14, 1929, to Henry and Juanita Ruiz. She attended San Fernando High School and graduated in 1947. The Ruiz family moved to the Raymond area in 1957.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita in 1989 and her father, Henry in 1980. She is survived by her brother, Melvin Ruiz (Cassie) of Raymond; two sons, Darrell Cordova (Norma) of Denair and Cory Ruiz (Lori) of Merced; two grandchildren, Darren (Serina) of Elk Grove and Trevor (Daniela) of Denair; four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She worked at Bank of America and retired from the Mariposa County Unified School District in 1986. In her early years, she would crochet intricate lace borders and tablecloths. During her retirement years she painted beautiful landscapes and old barns on saw blades, tin pitchers and milk cans. She kept meticulous records of the temperature and rainfall levels to assist her with planting, harvesting and gardening. She was an avid fan of Huell Howser and never missed an episode. She loved to relax with her favorite magazines, try new recipes, can fruits and make jam.

Remembrances may be made to the California’s Gold Collection Endowment at Chapman University to support Huell Howser’s Archives, the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.

As per Rosemary’s wishes there will be no services.
