The National Weather Service has upgraded the excessive heat watch to an excessive heat warning for Mariposa County and surrounding areas.

The warning is in place from noon on Saturday, June 29 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2.

Heat indices are expected to be at or above 105 degrees for several hours each day, primarily between the hours of 2 and 8 p.m.

The NWS cautions people to be especially aware of heat impacts on children, the elderly and those with chronic ailments. Pets and livestock are also susceptible to heat illness.
