Fire grows to 1,600 acres

Jill Ballinger/Gazette Editor

The Carstens Fire has grown to 1,600 acres and remains only 15 percent contained on Monday night.

According to CAL FIRE, the erratic winds and extreme fire behavior are cause for concern overnight.

Last night, flames heights reached 100 feet, according to information shared at this evening's briefing at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds. Officials expect that fire behavior will be similar tonight.

Check back with the Mariposa Gazette on Tuesday morning for updates on the the fire status and on evacuation information.
