County declares emergency

Jill Ballinger/GAZETTE EDITOR

The Mariposa County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed a local emergency and is asking the governor and president to declare a state of emergency because of the Carstens Fire.

The resolution, which was provided to the Gazette at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, says the fire is "causing ongoing damage, the extent of which has not been completely compiled." It also notes the "immediate threat to numerous private homes and other structures."

The board did not hold a special meeting. The board chairman has the authority to take such action, provided that it is ratified by the full board within seven days. The full board will deal with it at Tuesday's meeting.
