Authorities seek clues in bizarre animal killing

By Erik Skindrud / GAZETTE EDITOR

Investigators are asking for the public's help in solving the disturbing killing of a doe on West Whitlock Road on Tuesday morning. See the end of this article for information on how to report details directly or anonymously.

The doe was pregnant with one baby at the time. Whoever carried out the killing trussed up the animal with a yellow cord and tied it to a post.

The animal may have been tortured, Mariposa County Game Warden Frank Milazzo said.

"Some details I don't want to release right now," Milazzo said. "It was rather brutal."

A witness reported seeing a black pick-up similar to a Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma in the area around the time of the incident. The vehicle was observed between 11 a.m. and noon on Tuesday.

The vehicle had a Grizzly Gas sticker on its rear window, the witness said.

Also this week, a resident found what appeared to be a skinned coyote carcass on Triangle Road. Authorities would not speculate on whether the incidents could be connected.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Milazzo at 966-3376.  Information can be shared anonymously by using the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's CAL TIP hotline at (888) 334-2258.

This is beyond troubling!

This is beyond troubling! Please keep us updated if they catch this pathetic perpetrator or there are any further developments.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Fish and Wildlife investigators have asked that we show the photo to help generate leads.

For one, somebody is really

For one, somebody is really sick torturing poor animals, I think the punishment should be the same thing the person did to the animal in these cases, and two, why publish this picture?

The need to publish this

The need to publish this picture is to show the community the severity of this. To get them enraged enough to get up and be aware that there indeed are sick people in this sleepy little town. If they can do this to an animal what's next? A human being? Someone's loved one? Their child? People need to look out for said vehicle and other goings on. So yes, publish the picture.
