Benefit set for Lopez family

The community is invited to a benefit dinner for the Jose Lopez Family of El Portal on Thursday, June 6 at 5 p.m. at the El Portal Community Hall.

The event will feature barbecued tri-tip, chicken, and vegetarian options with side dishes; Yosemite Employee Association (YEA) bar service with local brews, live music  and a silent auction. Suggested donations are: dinner $15, local brew $5, beer and wine $4, and  sodas $2.

Baked goods will be available for dessert.

Jose and Liana Lopez are long time community members of El Portal. Jose has worked in Yosemite 40 years, and they have lived in the canyon raising their two children since 1989, and are now raising two grandchildren, Emiliano (3 1/2) and Gabriel (1 1/2).

After Jose and Liana received guardianship of their grandchildren, Jose was diagnosed with an advanced cancer. Treatments for his condition and some special needs of the grandchildren have been a huge financial challenge. Their community has reached out to give them support in many ways and they are very grateful. This community event fundraiser is an opportunity for all to give. Any amount, even a little, collectively becomes a huge relief to their financial burden.

To find out other ways to offer support and to wish them well, you can find them on “Lotsa Helping Hands” Community website. Send an email to deniseludington@yahoo.com to be invited to join the site, or put your email down on the sign up list at the dinner on Thursday, June 6, and the administrator of the site will send you an invite. In addition, a donation account for the Jose Lopez Family has been established at Yosemite Bank.
