RV driver survives Merced River plunge

A motorist was evacuated by helicopter on Friday afternoon after his RV rolled into the Merced River when he pulled over to let others pass.

The extent of the man's injuries were unknown, Deputy Joe Williams said.

According to a witness statement, the man "pulled off the road to let some other  people pass. He got into some soft dirt and rolled into the river."

The incident was reported off Highway 140 near Bull Creek Road around 4:24 p.m. on Friday.

The CHP and Mariposa County Sheriff's Office urge people to drive safely over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
