New Web cam spotlights Yosemite Falls

A new Web cam is providing live views of Yosemite Falls, offering locals and visitors a way to check weather and water volume before heading into Yosemite National Park.

The cam's address is www.yosemiteconservancy.org/webcams/yosemite-falls

The video camera, installed by the Yosemite Conservancy, debuted earlier this month. The Conservancy has offered a number of other live Web views in past years, but this is the first to watch a waterfall--which are one of the Valley's prime draws.

The Yosemite Falls camera offers relatively high-resolution still images as well as a streaming view. The waterfall's motion makes for a more intriguing scene than the other Valley-based camera angles.

"This technology makes the Park's incredible scenery accessible to anyone, anyplace and at any time," Conservancy president Mike Tollefson said.

Except, perhaps, on a moonless night.
