140 and Old Highway see second wreck in 10 days

A Toyota pickup locked its brakes and rolled off Highway 140 just south of Old Highway on Thursday. The driver appeared responsive but was evacuated via helicopter by emergency responders.

Back on May 13, another pickup traveling in the opposite direction rolled off the highway at precisely the same point. The vehicle in Thursday's (May 23) incident was traveling westbound at the time of the accident.

"It's been a few years since we've had a wreck here, and then we have two in a row," Mariposa County Fire Dept. Division Chief Hal Nolen said.

The pickup in this week's incident rolled down the hillside two to three times before coming to rest on its side, Nolen said.

The wreck was reported around 1:20 p.m. The driver, a white male in his 50s or 60s, appeared responsive when emergency workers lifted him from the pickup.

No other vehicles appeared to be involved in the incident.
