One-quarter inch of rain possible by Friday

The Sierra foothills could experience one-quarter inch of rain as showers sweep the region on Thursday evening, the National Weather Service said on May 15.

"Sprinkles are possible anywhere in the San Joaquin Valley on Thursday," a forecast issued on Wednesday afternoon said. "The most opportune time for measurable precipitation, however, will be Thursday night into Friday morning."

A brief warming period will follow on Sunday and Monday before a drier low-pressure system passes over the area next week, forecasters said.
