North Fork man dies in crash

Jill Ballinger

A Monday afternoon crash left a motorcyclist dead and his passenger injured. The accident happened around 1:20 p.m. on Highway 49 South near Chowchilla Mountain Road.

According to California Highway Patrol officer Tim Kilcrease, 51-year-old Roy Williams III of North Fork was driving southbound at 55 miles per hour. Williams steered across the solid yellow line and into the northbound traffic lane to pass several vehicles, apparently unaware that a vehicle was preparing to turn left onto Chowchilla Mountain Road.

Williams struck the front portion of the rig while it was in the northbound lane.
His motorcycle overturned and he and his passenger, Shaylene Wilson, 48, were both ejected. Williams was killed, and Wilson sustained major injuries. She was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
