Fiery crash victim succumbs

According to official sources, the adult male involved in Tuesday afternoon's fiery crash on Highway 140 at Old Highway North has succumbed to his injuries.

CALFIRE Battilion Chief Steve Leonard reported at 6:45 p.m. that Mariposa County Fire Deputy Chief Jim Middleton stated that the driver of the vehicle that plunged down a steep embankment in a vehicle that ignited on impact and sparked a wildland blaze has died.

It is the second fatality on Mariposa County highways in as many days as a North Fork resident sustained fatal injuries in a motorcycle accident on Highway 49 North on Monday.

The Highway 140 victim was reportedly a resident of Lushmeadows, but confirmation has not been received from the California Highway Patrol.

Look for further details as they develop.
