Marlene Lemelin

Marlene Mary Lemelin, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, lost her struggle with COPD on Monday, April 1, at her home in Elk Grove. Marlene was born July 15, 1932, in San Fernando, the second child of four born to Clifford and Alberta Delzell.

In 1949, at the age of 17, she married Frank Lemelin, and the two of them began their family. Frank was a lifetime CDF employee and his job took them from Southern California to Porterville and, ultimately, in 1974 to Mariposa where she resided for 35 years. Marlene worked at many jobs through the years, preferring retail sales.

Marlene’s passion was her family and she was always there with a word (or two) of wisdom, a ready smile, and a helping hand. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister, and was usually the first one people turned to in difficult times. She was also a devoted daughter, caring for her own mother for nearly two decades. Marlene had an expansive heart where children were concerned and was known to buy video games, toys, and games to keep on hand to delight all of the children (family or otherwise) who came visiting. She also delighted in being an Avon representative for many years, taking great pride in the many district awards that she earned.

Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents and her younger brother, Richard.

Her surviving family members include: her older brother, Cliff Delzell of Lebanon, Ohio; her younger sister, Darlene Reardon, of Madeira Beach, Fla.; her son, James Lemelin (Cathy) of Elk Grove; her daughters, Janice Ayers (Jim) of San Angelo, Texas, and René LaRoche of Mariposa; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the COPD Foundation.
