Spring brings Park openings

Jill Ballinger/GAZETTE EDITOR

Spring began on March 20, and many visitor services will open for the season in Yosemite National Park on March 22.

Curry Village opens for daily service on Friday. The Pavilion will be open daily for breakfast and dinner. The Pizza Deck and Bar also open that day.

The Coffee Corner begins daily operations on Saturday, March 23.

The Yosemite Lodge at the Falls bike stand opens for the season on Saturday, as well, weather permitting. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The last bike rental will go out at 4:45 p.m., and all bikes must be in by 5:45 p.m.

With all the forthcoming

With all the forthcoming changes being pushed due to the "Merced Wild & Scenic Rivers" proposals..... ....I just wonder if this may just be one of the final times people can rent and bike around the Valley, as they should be free to do. Same goes for eliminating horses and mules in the Valley. What a waste to eliminate bike rentals and horseback travels in the the Valley; And also eliminating the skating rink at Curry Village in the Winter. And yet they still propose a "pedestrian tunnel" at the Lodge to get to the Falls at the Lodge; and they propose removal of Stoneman Bridge(by what used to be the long-gone & cherished Camps 7 and 8.) What tremendous losses to we locals and our visiting friends from around the world to be able see God's Wonders..... from a tour bus or tram, rather than the years-tested methods. We sure are getting a lot of mixed messages here. Aren't we (literally) "throwing the baby out with the bath water?"
