Fresno doctors performed quadruple bypass surgery on county supervisor Lee Stetson on Monday. The actor and longtime resident will be home by Friday, but will be away from work for several weeks, wife Connie Stetson said.

Stetson's heart issues turned up during a routine examination, Connie Stetson said.

"He had no symptoms," Stetson said. "It was good luck that he had these tests and we caught it before anything happened."

Stetson came through surgery in fine shape, his wife said.

The District 1 county supervisor was treated at Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital. The recovery process will take at least three weeks, Connie Stetson said.

"He wants people to be reassured, and to know that he'll be back at work soon," the supervisor's wife said.

Stetson is widely known for his Yosemite National Park performances as naturalist John Muir.
