Hugh Boyd Martin

Hugh Boyd Martin was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Lockeford to Henry and Ida Martin. He passed away at home on Jan. 22 with his wife, Marlys, by his side. He was 80 years old.

He is survived by Marlys, his wife of 57 years; daughter, Jacalyn of Golden, Colo.; brother and sister in-law John and Beth of Mesquite, Nev.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hugh graduated from Calaveras High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54, including a tour of duty in Korea.

He was employed by the California Division of Forestry (CAL FIRE) for nearly 30 years, advancing from the rank of firefighter to assistant ranger. At the time of retirement, Hugh was assistant ranger at the CDF station on Coulterville.

Hugh was a loving husband, dad and friend, often helping neighbors with their home projects. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and horses.

Hugh is preceded in death by his parents and by a younger brother, Kenneth.

Hugh will be greatly missed by family and friends.
