County is hiring lifeguards and rec aides

Swimming is months away, but the county is now looking for a few good young men and women to serve as lifeguards and recreation aides next summer.

Experienced workers from last season will be hired again, but the parks and recreation office will likely hire about 10 new workers, staffer April Hawley said.

"I haven't heard from our lifeguards from last year, so the number we hire will depend on that," Hawley said.

About 15 lifeguards staff pools in Mariposa, El Portal and Coulterville each summer. The town pool is open from the weekend after school gets out until cool weather shuts it down--usually in October.

Lifeguard training will take place in April, when water temperatures warm up, Hawley said.

About 10 recreation aides staff the county's summer program for local youngsters, which is held at the county park each year.
