Wynter Blaine Sturtevant

Wynter Blaine Sturtevant of Coulterville was born April 29, 1922, and passed away Jan. 12 at home with his family. Blaine was born to the union of Ralph Doe Sturtevant and Rose Miriam Sturtevant. He was the youngest of three children

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janie Calcote Sturtevant; son, Wynter Blaine Jr. (Jannette); stepchildren, Virginia Stewart Carton (Edmond)and Castle Stewart; brother, Raloph Sturtevant (Bev).

Blaine was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jean Hamar. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Victoria Sturtevant, Wynter Sturtevant lll, Virginia Stewart, Natalie Stewart, Stephanie Carton, Laurent Carton and Kenand Fenelus; and one great-grandchild, Paul Rosa.

Blaine graduated from Mariposa County High School in 1940. During World War II, he served in the US Navy from Oct. 31, 1942 until Jan 4, 1946, in both the Asiatic and Pacific and in the invasion of Italy.

He served on the Mariposa County Unified School District Board of Trustees, was a director on the Mariposa County Fair Board and was active for many years with the Northside Museum. He was retired after 31 years as an equipment operator for the City and County of San Francisco at Moccasin.
