Diane Mary Anzai

She was famous. Not for being an actress or a popular musician, rather she was famous for always putting others first and caring for their wellbeing more than her own. Diane Mary Anzai passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, Jan. 8, at her home in Mariposa at the age of 52.

Diane was born to Heinz and Maria Betat on April 4, 1960, in Santa Monica. While growing up, she developed a love for the ocean and enjoyed frequent trips with her family just to smell the seasalt air and dig her toes in the sand. In her youth she loved riding horses, snow skiing, and going on road trips.

Diane graduated Pacific Union College in 1979 with a degree in nursing. She served as a missionary in 1987 at Holbrook Indian School in Arizona teaching English and the Bible. In 1990, Diane married the love of her life, Morris Anzai. Two years later, she gave birth to her daughter Jessica. In 2001, Diane moved to Mariposa and was employed at John C. Fremont Hospital for 12 years, enjoying many close friendships with the staff there.

She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Anzai; her two step-grandchildren, Randy and Andrew Putnam; her parents, Heinz and Maria Betat; and her brother, Olaf Betat.

The thing she is most remembered for is her daily walk with Jesus and her strong faith in helping others. Her life was led by her favorite Scripture verse, Isaiah 41:10. Diane was a respected and beloved registered nurse, employed by John C. Fremont Hospital for the past 13 years. She lived her life for others. She will be greatly missed.

Her memorial service will be held on Jan. 19, at 3 p.m. at the Oakhurst Seventh-day Adventist church. The address is 50690 Road 426 in Oakhurst. Call 617- 3494 for more information.

A memorial fund has been set up at Yosemite Bank. For those who wish to make contributions, the account number is 307015453. The bank’s mailing address is P.O. Box 765, Mariposa, CA 95338.
