Jill Ballinger/GAZETTE EDITOR

The fifth suspect in the Sept. 28, 2012, robbery of the California State Mining and Mineral Museum will make his first appearance in court on Thursday morning.

Formal charges have been filed in Mariposa County Superior Court, naming Michael Anthony Gomes, 43, of Citrus Heights.

The charges--all felonies--include attempted robbery, two counts of burglary, vehicle theft, two counts of robbery, vandalism and two counts of conspiracy.

Gomes allegedly has a long criminal record, according to the complaint. Court documents show that he has previous convictions in Sacramento and Placer Counties--all for drug charges.
