Supervisor Kevin Cann to Lead Rural County Advocacy Group

Sacramento – The Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) today announced that Supervisor Kevin Cann of Mariposa County has been selected as the Chairman of its Board of Directors during a Board meeting this week in Sacramento.

“Mariposa County – like so many other rural counties in California – faces numerous challenges,” said Supervisor Cann. “Navigating through these challenges is both exciting and daunting.  As such I am looking forward to continuing as part of RCRC’s leadership team to help rural counties successfully meet these challenges.”

RCRC is an association of 32 rural counties that advocates before the Legislature, Congress, state and federal government agencies on behalf of rural issues.  Headquartered in Sacramento, only county supervisors comprise RCRC’s governing board.

“I expect much of this year’s agenda will focus on implementing federal health care reforms in rural counties, continued challenges in prisoner management (AB 109 realignment) and eliminating fees on residents in State Responsibility Areas.  But, there are likely to be other important state and federal issues that we will need to address. To accomplish these goals, I will be working with the other rural county supervisors to ensure the concerns of Mariposa County and all California’s rural counties are heard and represented,” Cann added.

The selection of officers was made at RCRC’s Board of Directors meeting on December 5th in Sacramento.  Each officer was formally sworn into their leadership role at RCRC’s Annual Installation meeting on January 16, 2013.

In addition to Supervisor Cann serving as Chair for 2013, Supervisor Nate Beason of Nevada County assumes the role of 1st Vice Chair, and Supervisor Lee Adams of Sierra County will serve as 2nd Vice Chair.  RCRC’s current Chair, Colusa County Supervisor Kim Dolbow Vann, remains an officer in the position of Immediate Past Chair.
