Audrey Noel

Audrey Marie Noel was born April 10, 1933 to Marie and Bernard Giannell in Oakland and resided in San Leandro. She passed away on Dec. 9.

She is survived by her two older brothers, Bernard Giannell and Alfred Gianell, in addition to her children, Michael Noel, Jonathon Noel, Joseph Noel, Phillip Noel, Suzanne Noel, and Michelle Noel. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Shortly before her wedding, she graduated from San Leandro High School as valedictorian and was awarded a highly-coveted Exxon scholarship. Audrey was married April 29, 1951 to Joseph Eugene Noel. They enjoyed nearly 48 years of marriage until his passing in January of 1999.

In 1972, the couple moved to Mariposa where they opened Uncle Joe’s Lushmeadow Barns, which became a local hangout, and were known to the community as “Uncle Joe” and “Aunt Audrey.”

After her husband’s death, she continued to reside in Mariposa, the place that they had come to call home, until her passing. She was an active real estate agent in Mariposa for over 15 years and enjoyed the opportunity to remain involved in the community that she loved.

A drive through the river canyon brought her joy. She loved the changing of the colors during each season. She remained an active member in the Mariposa Lions Club until a few years ago. She never met a card game she didn’t like. “Jeopardy” kept her mind sharp, and “Dancing With The Stars” satisfied her passion for dance when she could no long swing herself around the floor.
