New year debuts cold and dry

Cold temperatures are keeping the county's snow fresh--despite the fact that rain and snow haven't fallen for more than a week. Love it or not, the crisp temps are slated to last for the foreseeable future.

Lows in the town of Mariposa will stay in the upper 30s before venturing into the low 40s this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, no precipitation is expected to hit the county for the next five days.

Despite the chill, the NWS reported on Jan. 1 that 2012 was the warmest year on record for the city of Fresno.
