Tuolumne Meadows rangers issue report

Jill Ballinger/GAZETTE EDITOR

Winter is officially here, and the weather actually matches the season. Rangers at Tuolumne Meadows have issued a report on conditions there.

It was a snowy week in the Tuolumne area. There was measurable snowfall five out of the last seven days.  The base snow depth as of Dec. 18 was 29 inches, and much more is on the way.

The freshly fallen snow clinging to the trees is said to be adding to the "air of tranquility" in the high country.

The Tuolumne Ski Hut is open for the season. There are 10 bunks that are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Those planning to travel to the hut should be aware that power and phones are intermittent.
