Squirrel hunter accidentally shot in the head

Mariposa Sheriff's Detectives have learned that yesterday a group of hunters from the Fresno area were reportedly hunting in the area of Miami Look-Out Mountain Road, near the Mariposa - Madera County line.

An elderly female shot at a squirrel and did not see her fellow hunting partner standing several feet away.  A man was struck in the head by several of the fired shotgun pellets.

They self-transported the injured party back to Fresno to an elder's home in their community who then told them to go to the hospital.  All were cooperative during the process.  The injured hunter is having surgery, reportedly the injuries were not life threatening.

Many of the involved party spoke in the Hmong language.  "The Fresno Police Department has been of great assistance to our detectives.  The investigation is in progress.  I do not anticipate any arrests, however, we will be forwarding our investigation to Fish & Game and the District Attorney's Office for their review," said Mariposa County Sheriff Doug Binnewies.
