Kevin Robinson

Kevin Robinson passed away from an unexpected heart attack on Thursday evening, Dec. 6, just four months after his mother Lynne’s passing from pancreatic cancer. Kevin was extremely family orientated, a devoted son, father and husband. He can’t be replaced.

Kevin was born in San Jose,

California on June 27, 1960, to Phil and Lynne Robinson. He lived in San Jose until 1966 when the family relocated to Mariposa. He attended elementary and high school in Mariposa graduating from MCHS in 1979. He attended Merced Community College after high school and received a degree in drafting. Kevin and Sharon (McCoon) Robinson eloped to Sparks, Nev. and were married on September 19, 1983. The newlyweds continued to Washington after the marriage ceremony and lived there until returning to Mariposa some months later.

Kevin’s work history was mighty uncomplicated. After graduating from college he went to work for Kirby Manufacturing in Merced as a draftsman. He stayed with the company until his passing some 20 years later. He held various positions with the company ending as senior designer/informational technology manager. Kevin’s work was multi-faceted in recent years which he enjoyed very much. He also held his fellow employees in very high regard. He often said that he couldn’t work for a nicer group of people.

Kevin’s recreational interests ranged from coaching soccer for more than 10 years to rooting for the Seattle Seahawks, a sin for which he may never be forgiven. Kevin loved coaching soccer and loved the fact that the kids still called him “coach.” He enjoyed cooking with his dad and daughter, Laura, being at the family cabin with his kids and just spending time with family and friends. His most recent interests were fly fishing and wine tasting with friends.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Sharon; children Sarrah Robinson (and Trevor Wallace) of Visalia, Benjamin Robinson of Mariposa, Laura Robinson of Merced and adopted son, Erik Burgess, of San Jose; his father, Phil, of Mariposa; and sister, Lynnene (and Clark) Mello of Sanger. Kevin also has many other relatives in Mariposa, and other parts of California, Washington and Oregon.

There will be a celebration of life on Dec. 22 at 1 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 1910 M Street, in Merced. Hawaiian shirts and soccer jerseys are encouraged. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kevin Robinson Soccer Scholarship fund being set up for Mariposa County High School students. Checks can be made payable to account #1017535772 (Wells Fargo) or Laura Robinson.
