Baby, it's cold outside

Jill Ballinger/GAZETTE EDITOR

Winter doesn't officially begin until Friday, but the feel is definitely in the air. Morning low temperatures on Wednesday were in the lower to mid-20s.

Rain and snow are headed this way in the coming days. The National Weather Service (NWS) has already issued a winter storm watch for Friday afternoon through late Saturday night for the area.

Snow accumulations are expected to be 12 to 18 inches above 5,000 feet. Gusty winds are also expected to create blowing and drifting snow.

At lower elevations, rain is expected to begin Thursday night and continue throughout the weekend.
