Power outage hits El Portal and Cathey's Valley

An unknown malfunction cut power to El Portal and Foresta, and to Cathey's Valley and Hornitos, on Friday afternoon. As of 4 p.m., crews were working to fix the problem, PG&E spokesman Denny Boyles said.

The two outages do not appear to be directly related, although they occurred just minutes apart, Boyles said. The Cathey's Valley outage struck at 3:15 p.m. The El Portal interruption hit at 3:19 p.m.

The El Portal outage is affecting 604 homes and businesses. The Cathey's Valley-centered outage is affecting close to 2,500.

The outages are not directly related because "they're off different circuits," Boyles said. Repair crews were working to fix both issues, Boyles added.
