Andrew Cleary

On Oct. 5, Andrew Cleary passed away. Andy was a paralyzed Vietnam veteran who lived in Cathey’s Valley for 12 years.

Few people knew him or even met him, but he loved living here, and he loved this valley. Andy moved here in 1999, after he lost his mother, and so he could be together with his sister. All who knew him loved him for his sense of humor and positive attitude. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone, and though his quality of life was simple, he was content.

Andy is survived by his brothers, Jim Cleary, Jack Cleary and Kevin French, all of Southern California; Robert French of Washoe, Nev., and Rick French of Mojave, Ariz.; sisters, Elaine Sullens of Cathey’s Valley; and Ruth Brown of Tripp, S.D.; nephews, Bret Brown of Hornitos, Nathen Sullens of Mariposa, Kerry Sharp of Fresno; two daughters, Joyce and Druanne Cleary; four grandchildren; and his life partner, Lisa Pabone.

His service was held at the Cathey’s Valley Cemetery on Nov. 5. A celebration of his life followed.

His family was his strength, and his pride of life was that he served his country to keep the war he fought from the doors of his loved ones. You will be missed by all who loved him. Semper Fi Marine.
