Carrier takes supervisors' seat, Bigelow in to Assembly

John Carrier has defeated opponent Ed Mee to secure the county's 5th District board of supervisors' seat. Carrier carried the run-off election with 57 percent of the vote to Mee's 42.9 percent.

The county's 5th District includes Ponderosa Basin, Fish Camp, Wawona and much of Lushmeadows.

Other results impacting Mariposa County include a Tom McClintock victory over Democratic opponent Jack Uppal. Numbers available Wednesday morning showed the Republican's margin of victory at 61.4 to 38.6 percent. McClintock will replace current Rep. Jeff Denham as Mariposa's representative in the House of Representatives in January.

Also in January, current Madera County supervisor Frank Bigelow will become Mariposa County's new state Assemblyman. As of Wednesday morning, Bigelow was posting a 53.8 to 46.2 percent lead over opponent Rico Oller.

For Mariposa County, Carl E. Wood, Candy Harrison and Suzette Prue were the top vote-getters for the John C. Fremont Hospital board.

Danny Johnson, Charles Day and Emery Ross captured seats on the Lake Don Pedro Community Services District board.

Mariposa County voters expressed a marked preference for Mitt Romney over Barack Obama for President of the United States. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Mr. Romney received 56.81 percent of the county vote to Mr. Obama's 39.46 percent.
