Small blaze is contained at Foresta

The Spur Fire was contained near the community of Foresta, east of El Portal on Monday. The fire was named for Flying Spur Ranch, once owned by the late Yosemite historian Shirley Sergent.

The fire burned about 20 acres near Flying Spur Ranch and the Little Nellie Falls road on private and Stanislaus National Forest lands.

Yosemite National Park fire crews assisted Forest Service crews with suppression efforts. Additional fire crews from the CAL FIRE, Mt. Bullion, handcrew pitched in.

The fire was contained at 20 acres, and has been mopped up 100 feet into the perimeter. Light smoke may be visible in the morning hours of Tuesday.

The fire is a reminder that even with last week's rain, area vegetation remains dry and fire-prone, a Yosemite Fire spokesperson said.
