First storm of season wets county, shuts Tioga Road

The first storm of the 2012-13 rainy season rolled over the county on Monday morning. The storm includes "moderately heavy" snow above 5,500 ft. Showers are expected through Wednesday.

As of mid-morning Monday, the storm appeared to surpass National Weather Service forecasts, which had called for a quarter-inch of rain in the Sierra foothills.

According to Yosemite National Park, the Tioga Road remained open this morning as of 8:15 a.m.

Sunny and warmer conditions are forecast for the coming weekend, with highs trending into the mid-70s.
