Arthur G. Turner

Arthur G. Turner was born

April 9, 1928, and passed away suddenly in Hornitos on Sept.


Art spent his childhood in Hornitos, graduating from grade school there and Mariposa County High School in 1945. He attended Modesto Junior College and the University of California.

He married Jeann Anne Grosjean on April 21, 1951, and after four years in the Air Force in Texas, they settled in Modesto. After teaching Spanish for 35 years at Downey High School, he retired in 1988 and spent his remaining years between Hornitos and Modesto.

Mr. Turner leaves his wife of 61 years, Jean; and three children, Ray (Tori) of Modesto, Lori (David) Clayton and Tami of Hornitos; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; brothers, Jon of Mariposa; and Gene of Hornitos.

He was one of the last real cowboys and was loved by many friends, family and all who knew him.

A service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Hornitos Cemetery, with a celebration of life to follow at Golden Stagg Hall.
