Andrew Mirassou

On Saturday, Sept. 8, Andrew Louis Mirassou of Mariposa, passed away from complications due to cancer at the age of 49.

Andrew was a native of the Salinas Valley, son of Peter Mirassou and Linda Nicholson. He grew up on the Mirassou's Mission Ranch outside of Soledad and attended Sacred Heart Elementary and Palma High School with his brothers Mark, Paul and Greg. He studied heating, air conditioning and refrigeration at UTI in Phoenix, Ariz.--a career he was extremely talented and passionate about.

In the spring of 1987 he settled back in Soledad, married Lisa Zanetta and started a family of his own. Andrew and Lisa have four beautiful daughters: Alexandra, Katherine, Isabella and Angelina. Andrew was also a wonderful grandfather, "Bampa," to Allie's son, Guido Hernandez.

Andrew was known for his big hands and his big heart. If there was a way he could help, he would surely show up. He was as strong as two men and could fix just about anything. He was also generous in sharing his trade with those who were willing to learn. He would take someone under his wing and before long they would have the skills to work in his field.

A lover of the outdoors, Andrew enjoyed off-roading, trap shooting, skiing and barbecuing. He was a founding member of the Mariposa Jeep Club. He also loved a good game of chess and would often spend hours playing Yahtzee and gin with his girls.

A celebration of life mass will be held for Andrew Saturday, Oct. 13 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Lifelong friend and now Deacon, Ron Panziera, of Soledad will officiate. Friends and family are invited to the Mirassou residence in Mariposa after the mass for a barbecue and afternoon spent in his honor and memory.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grizzly Band Boosters, P.O. Box 5008 PMB 340, Mariposa, CA, 95338.
