Paul W. Eagle

Paul Wesley Eagle, a 27-year resident of Mariposa and recently of Coarsegold for the past six years, pased away at his home Sept. 14. He was 71.

Paul was born in Bell on Jan. 8, 1941 to parents Dayton and Marie Eagle. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Black; and his mother and father.

He leaves his wife of 35 years, Judy Eagle; his son, Jeff Eagle; and daughters, Denine Gould, Paula Eagle and Cindi Eagle

Before retiring, he owned the Sportsman Cafe and Double Eagle Market at Woodland in Bootjack. Paul loved the outdoors and fishing and hunting. He was past president of the Mariposa Fish and Game Association. He was, until recent years, in charge of the Lake McSwain trout fishing derby held every May. He was a member of the Lions Club of Mariposa for many years and will be remembered for being in the infield at the fairgrounds with his hot dogs and drinks for the destruction derby on Labor Day Weekend. Paul was also a member of Kokanee Power.

His family can’t name all his friends and relatives, but Paul’s cousin, Curt Hedges, was like the brother Paul never had. Also, Paul’s best friend was Daniel Miller, who gave him his nickname, “Big Bird.”

“Are there Kokanee in heaven? Paul’s gone fishin’.”
