Herman C. Wackerman

Herman Clarence Wackerman, 88, of Mariposa and Jackson, Wyo., passed away on

Aug. 31, from injuries sustained in an accident earlier in the month.

He was born to Henry and

Myra (Herrick) Wackerman of

Midpines on June 11, 1924.

Herman attended Mariposa County High School before enlisting in the Army. He married the love of his life, Ellen (Heyne) on April 2, 1946.

Herman had a strong devotion to his family and his friends. He had a passion for the outdoors, working with his hands and helping others. Over his lifetime he was a cowboy, logger, heavy equipment operator, wildfire dozer operator, long haul trucker, mechanic, inventor, welder, gardener and just an all around jack of all trades.

He was heavily involved with V.F.W. and the Lions Club both in Mariposa and Jackson, Wyo. He was a Private First Class, of the 478th Anti Aircraft Artillery, Automatic Weapons Battalion during the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign during World War II. He was honorably discharged from injuries sustained from enemy gunfire while in the line of duty during the New Guinea Campaign where he received a bronze star.

He loved to hunt and especially loved to fish, spending time with family and friends, volunteering his time as a coach for youth baseball and football, speed boat racing and doing anything on horseback. He loved sharing stories, his time, skills, and absolute love of life with anyone and everyone around him.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 66 years, Ellen (Heyne) Wackerman; children, Don Wackerman of Wyoming; Dorothy (Pelk) Richards of Mariposa, and Ed (Lori) Wackerman of Midpines; grandchildren, Tammi, Troy, Don Jr., Bernie, Dan, and Jeff; step-grandchildren, Julie and Terry (deceased); and great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Savanna, Tyler, Boden, Bryanna, Blayke, and Ally Paige.

A military salute and celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m, on Sunday, Sept. 16, at Mariposa Fairgrounds Building A. A reception will follow and all are encouraged and welcome to stay, eat, and share stories.

RIP i miss you so much poppa

RIP i miss you so much poppa i cant believe its been almost 3 years since you were taken from us !!!!! There isn't a day when im not missing you, you were my best friend my favorite person on the planet ! You are always on my mind poppa i hate not having you in our lives anymore. I hate not being able to see you in person or not being to hug you or working in the shop with you anymore. It irritates me that I didnt get to see you before you left now I only get to see you in pictures and its not the same as in the flesh. I love you more than anyone will ever know !!!!!! You were my best friend poppa i miss you so much poppa i hope your watching over me and the girls and granny ! We all love and miss you !!!!!!!
