Elsie Mae McNally

Elsie Mae McNally passed away on July 29, at the age of

90.

She was born in Lindsay on May 6, 1922 to Wesley and Alice (Carleton) Barth. She moved from San Diego to Mariposa at the age of 12 where she studied ballet and tap dancing. She married her sweetheart, Claude McNally, whom she met at the old Bootjack Dance Hall. They were married in Mariposa on June 22, 1939, where they raised their son, Wesley McNally; and daughter, Claudia (McNally) Long.

Elsie was a dance instructor until the age of 74. She was the owner of McNally School of Dance and taught in Mariposa, Merced, and Atwater. She taught her niece, Denisa Rice, who is the owner of Denisa’s School of Dance in Merced. She loved to crochet and was thrilled to find out when a new baby was on the way so she could crochet a special blanket.

Elsie was the oldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Claude; infant son Lesley; sisters, Rita Johnson, Ruby Sprotte, and Thelma Johnson.

She is survived by her brother, Arnold Barth of Clearlake; son, Wesley McNally of Mariposa; daughter Claudia (Bud) Long of Mariposa; granddaughters, GeGe (Rich) Drozen of Mariposa and Shana (Greg) Hamel of Mariposa. She also leaves behind the joys of her life, her six great-grandsons, Devin Drozen, Zachary Green, Christian Drozen, Austin Garibay, Nathan Drozen, Jordan Hamel, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed, but her family is comforted knowing she is dancing again in Heaven.
